Council Member Jim Oddie’s Priorities

911 Fire, Police and Emergency Medical Services.   Seconds count in an emergency! I’ll continue to maintain our quick 911 response times so any resident or family who needs help, gets it fast.  Continuing to keep Alameda Hospital open and maintaining our model Community Paramedic Program—one of only a few in the State – are my top priorities.

Traffic Management, Street and Pothole Repair.  Like you, I’m tired of bumper to bumper traffic through the Posey Tube.  The City needs to better manage traffic congestion.  Properly maintaining our 125 miles of streets and roads will not only make them safer for drivers, cyclists and emergency vehicles but addresses infrastructure needs before they become even more expensive in the future.

Housing and Homelessness.  The skyrocketing cost of housing means that future generations of Alamedans won’t be able to afford a home on the Island—let alone our teachers, police officers and firefighters.  We must expand housing options working families can afford.  I’ll work to provide compassionate, effective services for the homeless while making sure our business districts and parks are safe and secure for everyone.

Quality of Life Services for Seniors & Families. I’ll continue to protect the Island’s small-town character and maintain the quality of services all generations of Alamedans rely on, including senior health and nutrition programs; city-school partnerships that ensure school safety and security; and low-cost parks and recreation programs for all ages.
